wedding draft #2 ---the bride

As soon as I walked into the room I knew, something was wrong. Something HAD to be wrong. I mean, wasn’t everything else about this wedding totally and completely wrong? Not only did my dress not fit but, the caterers had made clams instead of lobsters—I mean, who eats clams at a wedding?! And then the ridiculously obnoxious wedding planner had changed everything because she said it would “look better” or “be cheaper”. I didn’t WANT cheap! I WANT THIS TO BE THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!!! But she doesn’t seem to understand that I just want to be happy, ad being stressed out like she’s making me is not helping one bit.
I began looking for the things that would help me with my list that I would use to, I don’t know; sue the wedding planner or something. I walked into the chapel and saw it right away. Oh my god this cannot possibly be happening to me. I thought. The walls were covered in red roses. Everywhere I turned---more red. Six thousand red roses that were pinned to the walls of my fathers’ chapel, I couldn’t believe it. Not only had I specifically asked for pink roses so they would be less overwhelming but, you could not just pin roses to a room and expect me to be happy with them!! I mean think about it--- there would be two pins to each rose. Twelve thousand pin-marks in the walls of my fathers’ private chapel... Oh my god. He’s going to shoot me! I ran up to the room where I was late to have my hair done and almost ran into that annoying wedding planner.
“How could, how could you do this to me?!”
“Do what?”
“EVERYTHING!!!! Nothing is the way that I planned it! What kind of a wedding planner ARE you?! I mean look at the roses on the walls of my fathers’ chapel!!! They are RED!!”
“And….?”
"But I WANTED pink!!" Ok fine, I admit, that was a weak response.
"Look, I’m sorry but this is what they sent me. If you want me to change it now we will have to postpone the wedding. You could have come yesterday to look at the decorations like I had recommended. But now exchanging 6 thousand red roses for pink ones will take a pretty long time."
This was a complete and total lie. She had NOT asked me to come yesterday. In fact, I had suggested it and she said that I shouldn’t bother!
I turned away from her and sat down in the chair for my hair to get done, I couldn’t believe that irresponsible woman!!!
A couple hours later I was sitting by the window, when my soon-to-be husband’s brother walked into the room.
“Hi Luc!” I said
“Hey, what’s up? Ummm I have a...a question…”
I waited for him to finish.
“ I was thinking about asking Julia to marry me.”
I screamed and rushed towards him. Julia was my best friend, my maid of honor.
“When when when????!!!”
“Uhh…well your almost-husband wants it to happen at the reception…Would that be..?”
“Oh my god! WOW!!!!!! Yes that would be great!!! OH this is so exciting! She really loves you Luc. She really does. You should get a boat!”
“Uhhh a BOAT?”
“Yeah, propose on the lake! Its going to be a beautiful night!”
“How do you expect me to get one?”
“Talk to my lovely (I coughed) wedding planner. I bet she can get you one!”
“Ok ill do that, I have to find mind my brother now, well your almost-husband too I guess!” he grinned and ran out of the room.
Oh god, she’s probably going to get them a kayak, either that or its not going to be a boat at all. I wouldn’t trust that wedding planner with anything….I grinned, the day just got so much better…

weddingdraft1

"but i WANTED pink!!"the brides face pouted as she looked down at me from her six in loubiton heels.
"look, i'm sorry but this is what they sent me. if you want me to change it now we will have to postpone the wedding. You could have come yesterday to look at the decorations like i had recommended. but now exchanging 6 thousand red roses for pink ones will take a pretty long time."
Almost over, it was almost over. I liked being a wedding planner most of the time but it was dealing with frantic brides that i absolutely could not take.
"i mean, look at the bright side. now the decorations will match you, well the bottoms of your shoes anyway...and your dress is a nice contrast!"
she glared at me and then turned back to the makeup artist who was listening with a bored expression on her face..almost like mine.
"so i was thinking of my hair in a sort of twist with a few strands braided right here..."
If i could only wait a few more hours, it would all be over and i could crawl back to my appartment and watch a few movies. i sighed and walked out of the room to check on the food and see if the musicians had arrived to set up for tonight.

As i turned the corner i ran straight into someone. I couldnt tell who it was but they smelled of chanel perfume. i stepped back and slowly raised my head to meet the eyes of the maid of honor. She had stick-straight brown hair that fell around her face limply and i could see that she had been crying because of the mascara lines running down her face.
"oh sorry. Is everything alright?"
"uhh..well no. But ill be ok. How did you..?"
"darling you have some trouble with your makeup. Here follow me and ill help you"
"oh right, thanks"
i led the poor girl to the bathroom and grabbed my bag that was full of anything and everything and could fix just about anything that could go wrong.
"here let me get that.."
i took a wet towel and wiped of the mascara that left gray streaks on the white plush towels that hung from the wall.
"what happened?"
"oh, don't worry about it , you probably don't care anyway."
But even as she said it i could tell she was about to tell me everything.
"its just. Have you ever felt like you never win..like you couldn't get your life to be better then someone else s no matter how hard you try?"
of course i did. everyone felt this way at one point or another.
"well im going out with this guy--the grooms brother..and my best friend, shes getting married now at this wedding..i just..i just am worried that it wont ever happen to me!"
"Of course it will.. just not yet." As many issues that had come up as long as i had been a wedding planner, this was one of the most normal problems that the maids of honor had.i continued my rehearsed speech--
"Maybe you aren't at the right stage of your relationship yet, but trust me your time will come. Why shouldn't he be in love with you? Look, your gorgeous and smart and funny. Trust me. it will happen at some point. soon."
She looked a little comforted and tried a smile.
"haha thanks."
I wiped of the last of her blurry makeup and washed off the towel, wringing the water out of it into the sink.
"your all done. Better go get that dress on!"
"thank you so much."
i nodded and hurried out to the kitchen to check on the entrees.
A couple hours later i was sitting on the back porch, a coke in my hand. I couldn't stop thinking about the girl with the mascara running down her face. i couldn't help wishing that things would work out with her. i leaned back against the porch railing. The groom walked out of the house, followed by another man, about his age.
"oh hello Caroline"
"Luc this is our amazing wedding planner, Caroline, this is my brother Luc"
"nice to meet you" i smiled warmly thinking, this guy is the male counterpart of the woman i met before. They even looked like they would get along, i thought.
"Caroline, my brother here has a question for you......Luc?"
"Yeah, umm so i was wondering....well its just....well i need...o god, i cant even say it...ok i'm just going to go for it..i haven't told anyone yet, i'm going to ask my girlfriend to marry me."
i grinned. it WAS going to work out!
"ooooook..." i said
"so i was wondering if you know, you could help out a little?"
"well what would you like me to do?"
"umm well my brother really wants me to propose at the reception..even though i TOLD him that it was HIS wedding..but it would probably be perfect. Its SO pretty out here...could you maybe find me a boat?"
"a boat?"
"yeah, id like to propose out on the lake, at night...don't worry i know how to drive one..."
"Yes of course, there's a boat rental over down the road. i can go right now actually...i'm free for until the wedding starts, then i have to take pictures. Ill get it over behind those trees, she'll never know! good luck!!!"
"thank you SO much.. here.."
he handed me a blank check with his signature at the bottom.
"...im trusting you" he grinned.
When everything was set, the boat behind the trees, the guests arriving, the music playing... had my camera in hand snapping pictures one after another. The groom, the groom and the bride, the bride and her mother, the bride and her friends, the random guests who nobody knew, everyone. The band was playing loudly and everyone was dancing. This is why im a wedding planner, i thought..i took a glass of water from the bar and continued snapping away. out of the corner of my eye, i say Luc talking to the girl from before...he grabbed he hand and they started walking out towards the trees---where i had the boat. He looked back and i caught his eye and gave him a thumbs up. he grinned nervously and turned back to his soon-to-be-wife.
i smiled and snapped a picture of them walking towards the sunset.
